Gypsy Pistoleros CD single “En La Vida Real!”
“Gypsy Trash Babies?”
Well for a start is that enuff websites for you eh? I first saw these guys last year when in true “Rock n Roll spirit” they played the club on the back of an artic lorry! – riding high with the success of a “killer” 3 track EP The Pistolero’s rock’d thru an hours set of “Hispanic-sleeze!” With a punky feel thrown in for gud measure! The 3 track single namely “Shot Gun Kiss”, “Crazed Gypsy Girls Lair” and “Switchblade Closer” It’s a powerful mix of meaty riff’s and lick’s mixed up with electric flamenco guitar meets Motley Crue! A style not seen in rock? The nearest mix of styles was “La Bamba” when Spanish rock n roll met the charts! The gig was a success even tho’ the lead guitarist “Marky” Westwood had left the band in the lurch? A week or so earlier at the Marrs Barr in Worcester. So less “Flamenco” more “Sleeze-Punk-Pistoleros” this time? Still it proved Lee’s capability to draw on years experience , from the “Ice Babies” “last gang” and “White Trash” to deliver every time! With his brand of “Energetic Presence” not to mention Mr Walker and his powerhouse bass and driving rhythm!
“Damned Evil Boyz”
Caught the guys again 5 months later doin’ the same venue bringin’ hard rock to the backwaters of Bromsgrove before headin’ out “Wild, Beautiful and the Damned!” Basically the guys shot thru the new album. Flyin’ from Hard punk rock to the light and shade of the album’s Spanish feel “Semi-acoustic” tracks. The club responded to the tracks as well as Lee J’s banter! The album’s contrast varies from hard rock to Spanish influenced ballad! “Loco Loquito” kicks offwith hard hitting style, no wonder it was a single! Followed up by “House of a “1000 Dolls” with its gud stop starts approach, and Spanish clapping and toe-tapping sounds! Back with the Spanish Rock next up “Para Slempre” combines Flamenco Riff’s with chanting chorus and layered vocals. Into light stuff now with an amazing “Gypsies, Tramps and Thieves” done acoustically Lee J almost claims its as his own, with his own style! Contrasting punk in yer face with “Close as you’ll ever be” a mix of Sex Pistol & rock grabs you and throws ya down afterwards and makes you laugh in the middle with a light hearted bit of “Shakin’ all over” by Johnny Kidd and the Pirates! So they haven’t lost their sense of humour! An interesting riff starts an “Air Guitarists” dream as acoustic and electric “Ramones” style chords take it in turns with “Mangi (Prince of Thieves) “Chica de la Luna”. Up next, a toe-tapping, hand clapping “semi” acoustic feel, starting this one building up to a heavy chorus with electric guitars in the background. Acoustic chord start off “bandido” reading into their by now trademark “Latino Rock”! With its great stop start and rousing Spanish ad lib’s! Last bar one its Flamenco Muchos! With “ay Que Dolor”, this one’s me fave! 75% Spanish vocal and it’s a real rocker! Finally the title track of the album, scratching strings and fast riff this one! More 1,2,3,4 stop start rock ‘n’ roll! Party Metal perhaps?? Wild, Beautiful and Damned Good too!
Nice one Guys!!
