No Spring Chicken & Double Drats MCC’s
Double Chicken Nuggets!
Well lets get the ‘Chicken jokes outta the way first! – Would it be a ‘poultry’ nite out with sum ‘fowl’ pub band or would they come out with a ‘portion’ of ‘Rock Nuggets?’ ‘Batter’ my ears? Or ‘Happily’ make a ‘Meal’ of it? Well first up a ‘Nirvana’ style support band who had plenty of ‘Grungy’ light and shade, sum great down tuned riff’s too! But wen ask’d for info or a CD these guys weren’t interested so I don’t even know their names? Your loss Guy’s!! With the gathering MCC’s chatting amongst the rows of bikes and the smell of ‘Spiders’ burger wagon you could tell it was goin to be a good nite! With a unique pub and great ales too! The locals must have wondered wot was going on? Anyway to see ‘Ken & Co’ (No Spring Chicken) after they asked for one of my write ups months ago! As they’d like to play to more MCC’s? They’re the Godfathers of the Black Country Pub Rock Scene playing all over from the Rock Café (2000), The Windmill at Lye and beyond to even Wales. Goin for a while seasoned veterans All, you can tell by the set list a mammoth 51 track’s. A monster 33 main set and 18 classic encores all picked off at random unless requested by the crowd! High points for me were ‘Rockin in the Free World’, ‘Hocus Pocus’ and a Led Zep medley of ‘Kashmir/Wholelotta/Imigrant Song’. Not to mention ‘Sweet Home Alabama’ a bikers fave anthem, so popular it was done twice by request! Faith No Mores ‘Out of Nowhere’ had me guessing for at least 5 minutes – talk about a blast from the past eh? It must have been nearly 2 hours later, Encores were finishing after a great ‘Riff Raff’, ‘Play that Funky Music’, ‘Whole lotta/Smoke’ or was it ‘Rosie on the Water’ Its getting blurry now! I said it was an especially gud nite! With an excellent welcoming/Company c/o the Double Drat’s MCC, a club in their relative infancy who support and welcome all MCC’s without question – that’s a refreshing change! Hey nearly forgot the ‘No Spring Cd sampler, an amazing Pink Floyd Double Track done so well you’d think it was the original – I’m a big fan so its no Floydian slip! Not to mention the Rocky U2 ‘Vertigo’ done really well – so roll on the album Guy’s! Check out the ‘Chicken’ site too for more sound bites! Cheers
