TRANZAM TRANZAM CD
“Rockin’ after Midnight”
I had been looking forward to this gig for a week as I’ve not seen these guys before, but have heard the name around the live scene for a while. The Hanbury Turn was packed out with locals and rockers from all over, plus the bands wives and girlfriends! So having set the scene, I’ll cut to the chase as its not that often a Covers Band impresses me but these guys did! I got there about 9 and left at midnight, and I’m sure the band only took a 20 minute break! Loads of classic album tracks and not predictable ‘Greatest Hits’ they also broke the gig down into 3 very interesting sets with what Tranzam described as a ‘Pop’ rock set featuring ‘Jet’ and ‘Calling all the Heroes’ – was a blast from the past-‘it’ certainly had a Bite! They started it all off with Alice Coopers ‘Schools Out’ and after a little Queen, Thin Lizzy and The Who’s ‘Who are you’ it was ended finely with a Great Floyd’s ‘Comfortably Numb’. The solo was spot on! After a quick pint back at it with a ‘mini’ acoustic set! ‘Maggie May met the ‘Hotel California’ where my rockin’ mates went mad! They all sang along to a very enjoyable ‘Tie your mother down’! Then a pit stop for the guys before the main set of harder rock goodies! Loads of smoke fills the ‘Turn’ for ‘Another brick in the Wall’, all of us singing the part of the kids! After all the ale has kicked in were jumping around ‘Van Halen’, headbanging to ‘Guns ‘n’ Roses’, playing the guitar to ‘Thin Lizzy’ and strutting round like Mick Jagger to ‘Start me up’. The good sound and following made things quite memorable, not to mention Judas Priests ‘Livin’ after Midnight’. Even better was the CD the band gave me. A take-away tasty slice of rock capturing the bands sound, professional musicianship and best tracks from the gig! My fave – ‘Comfortably Numb’ – You’ve got to hear it! Along with ‘Word Up’, a rocked up ‘Sharp Dressed Man’ really is the ‘Tops’, and don’t forget the ‘Kiss’ version of Argents ‘God gave Rock ’n’ Roll to you’. Thanks to Mr Halford for the chat and to the guys for the CD! Cheers
