Zak Wyldes “ZAK IN BLACK” Well most have heard of that chap “Ozzy”?, who’s guitarist has a very successful side line band called the Black Label Society! So I’m at a sold out J/B’s after queuing up the hill! It’s packed out with Bikers and Rockers of all descriptions, all shoulder to shoulder from front to back! The mood was set as the band start up with the low lights, beacons and strobes. With the whole band playing in unison – their “Bone crunchin” riffs were immense!! Imagine a lost “Sabbath” album down tuned 10 times? The hot, sweaty packed club luving every moment! And wot was that funny acrid smell – certainly not fag’s I think?! I haven’t seen such a Rock hungry, mad moshing crowd in ages, and I was at the front for “Priest”! The stage was filled with pints and cans lined up across the drum riser! Along with Roadies and Band all ‘uniformed’ in Biker style cut off’s with back patches looked impressive! That many people on stage at times, made it hard to work out who was in the band? All drinking and passing pints and cans into the crowd, then jumping in too! A 2 hour show in a cramp’d J/B’s I don’t recommend again – The Band I do recommend! Big time! 14 tracks in all from an ever increasing back-catalogue featuring new and old, “Lightening”, “Destruction”, “Funeral”, “Demise” and “Suicide” to name a few! And an “Ultra-Heavy” ending with “fire It Up”, “Stillborn” and “Genocide”! Not to mention Hero of the Nite – a young kid of about 10? With his dad, the band stopped the gig – got him on stage and gave him Zak’s guitar and sat next to him whilst he played the “solo” to “No More Tears” Absolutely jaw dropping !! For us all! More to come for me later when asked by Roadies to help out packing up guitars and amps! Myself and mate “Paul” were like kids in a sweet shop! Handling “Zak’s” guitars and equipment in return for backstage passes and T-shirts!! One to remember forever! Cheers |
