Born To Be Electric!

Tonight’s going to be interesting as we’re seeing “Pure Cult” a tribute to ‘The Cult’.  Will they pull off the energy and electric performances they have a reputation for?!

After a couple of pints the band go on starting a little oddly with ‘New York City’ off the ‘Sonic Temple’ album, which lacked response from an unusually quiet ‘Chestnuts’.  But that was soon put right by ‘Li’l Devil’ done with such energy that any doubts went from my mind!

Along came ‘Rain’ and ‘Peace Dog’ running nicely together sliding easily from both styles off the ‘Electric’ and ‘Love’ albums.

A ripping ‘Outlaw’ with great ‘wah-wah’ effects by guitarist Russ was excellent as was in contrast a very ‘alternative feeling’, ‘Spiritwalker’ and ‘Revolution’.

Next up was ‘Sun King’ followed by an all-time favourite of mine ‘Phoenix’ with good use of the ‘wammy’ bar to get the right distortion and feel.  I was impressed!

‘Sweet Soul Sister’ followed with good use of sustain on the chords and riffs.

Getting things well rockin’ the next three tracks wound the crowd up well with the perfect timing and stop start of ‘Wild Flower’ and build up on ‘Fire Woman’, then a long drum and bass intro into ‘Love Removal Machine’ all was well approved by the crowd who were now responding loudly.

After a quick break ‘Edie’ was followed by the long awaited ‘She sells Sanctuary’ then a big meaty sound of The Cults version of ‘Born to be Wild’ with the ultra heavy sound and rhythm.

The guys in the band enjoying themselves as much as the crowd, they went down well.  It was a tight set with a couple of new songs too off last years Cult CD.

A few of the guys used to be in a band called ‘Wild Obsession’ who played around the midlands a few years ago so they are seasoned musicians!

Cheers!
