RED LION
Well it’s another nite on the tiles in the name of rockn’n’roll, and it’s down to the “Red Lion” for an acoustic gig which they’ve been doing regularly for 12 months or so. Many local “buskers” and musical folks ‘ave been stoppin’ by to “strum their stuff”. Got there early to get a few of the excellent guest ales down my neck as did a few others, like the “Hop Pole” music fans (another rock/folk pub in Bromsgrove) After a pint or so it’s time for “Andre” to begin his set, starting off with a few toe-tappin’ obscurities like Lennon’s “Starting over”, “Sorrow” by Bowie and “House of the Rising Sun”. After a few Everly Bros tunes namely “Bye Bye Love” and “Walk Right Back”, it’s time for a great LedZep cover “Ramble On”, which “Andre” certainly doesn’t do at all!, the he closes the 1st set with a lot of the pub held by him doing “Light my fire”, by the doors! After a small break and time for more real ales – too many to mention – “andre” is back with a set you’d expect more at a biker bash than the “Red Lion”, playing “Johnny Be Good” behind his back. Then there’s a bluesey bit with Stevie Ray Vaughn’s “Lenny” and “Pride and Joy”, and to much applause the launches into “Paranoid” then “Born to be Wild”. Next a surprising treat with “Snowblind” by Sabbath and LedZep’s “Thank You”, a great gigger’s treat! Winding things down a bit with his “spotted” acoustic guitar, we’re given a good version of Sabbath’s “Changes”, thankfully without Kelly Osbourne! I was pleasantly surprised, after not expecting too much at this gig, with Andre’s style, originality and vigour!! (He broke a string every 2-3 tracks!) He’s looking for a bass guitar and drummer, as he’d love to go “electric” with the idea of doing a “rock’n’blues” festival in the future. Andre can be contacted on 07715 865845 if anyone has the talent to join him. Ta, x, Lee….
